The Sotomayor WILDCATS pushed their score all the way to 69 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Harlan by a score of 72-69. While losing is never fun, Sotomayor can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while the Hawks are ranked 98th).
Sotomayor's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Hernandez, who scored 21 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasiah Saunders, who scored 22 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Harlan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josiah Jones, who scored 22 points. Jones is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Knowledge Carter, who scored 18 points.
Sotomayor now has a losing record at 14-15. As for Harlan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season.
Sotomayor will head out on the road to take on the Raiders at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Taft has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Harlan, they will be playing at home against the Huskies at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Holmes focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Wednesday.
