The Fort Payne Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Oxford Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fort Payne posted their biggest victory yet this season last Saturday. They claimed a resounding 61-24 win over Westminster Christian Academy on the road. Given Fort Payne's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Westminster Christian Academy is ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Oxford had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Jacksonville 71-38 on the road.
The win makes it two in a row for Fort Payne and bumps their season record up to 17-8. As for Oxford, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Fort Payne didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Oxford when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 46-42 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Oxford's Xaionna Whitfield, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Fort Payne still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
