In what's become a running theme this season, Tucker County gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 62-20 victory over Braxton County on the road. Tucker County pushed the score to 42-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Braxton County had little chance of recovering from.
Raven Matthews was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Helmick, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Tygarts Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 52-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pendleton County. That's two games in a row now that Tygarts Valley has lost by exactly 12 points.
Despite the loss, Tygarts Valley had strong showings from Summer Lewis-Smith, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and two steals, and Kailen Yokum, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Yokum pulled down eight or more rebounds. Emily Smith was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Tucker County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Tygarts Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Tucker County hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.3 points per game. It's a different story for Tygarts Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 38.1 points per game. The only thing between Tucker County and another offensive beatdown is Tygarts Valley. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Tucker County against Tygarts Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 67-36 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Lewis-Smith, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds.
