Shawnee Mission Northwest barely beat Shawnee Mission East the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Lancers on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the Cougars' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Shawnee Mission Northwest never let Shawnee Mission East on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The final score came out to 25-20, 26-24, 25-16.

Despite the loss, Shawnee Mission East saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jessie Hill had 11 digs and three aces. Hill is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played. Lainey Barrett also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

The win got Shawnee Mission Northwest back to even at 3-3. As for Shawnee Mission East, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-5.

Coincidentally, Shawnee Mission Northwest and Shawnee Mission East will both be playing Mill Valley the next time they take the court. The Cougars will head out to face the Jaguars on Sunday, while the Lancers will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
