The Copper Canyon Aztecs will head out on the road to challenge the Chaparral Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Copper Canyon will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Copper Canyon scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 58-48 win over Washington.
Copper Canyon relied on the efforts of Bri'ann Felix, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Zalaya Dupre, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dupre has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jasmin Colter, who scored three points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Chaparral had to suffer through a rough 65-37 loss at the hands of the Saints. While losing is never fun, Chaparral can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while the Saints are ranked 20th).
Copper Canyon's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-11. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Chaparral, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-15.
Copper Canyon came up short against the Firebirds in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 38-30. Can Copper Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
