Parma is 8-2 against Melba since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Parma is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Parma came out on top against New Plymouth on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Panthers walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Pilgrims. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Pilgrims recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Wesli Crockett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kinlea Cole was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Britton, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Melba made easy work of Vision on Wednesday and carried off a 20-2 victory. That looming 20-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mustangs yet this season.
Andrea Pinto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Pinto was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kodi Adams was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Olivia Atack was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Melba always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vision only posted an OBP of .211.
Melba's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Parma, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
Melba's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Parma has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Melba, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Parma keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?
Everything went Parma's way against Melba when the teams last played last Tuesday, as Parma made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
