The Loris Lions were the 72-25 winner over the Carvers Bay Bears when they last played one another back in November of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Loris fell to Carvers Bay 43-37. That's two games in a row now that Loris has lost by exactly six points.
Loris' loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Janiya Richburg and LaKeya Martin. Richburg dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Martin scored ten points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martin has scored all season.
Even though they lost, Loris smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carvers Bay only pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Leading Carvers Bay to victory were K'moni Taylor and Jasmyn Jenkins. Taylor scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Jenkins scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Loris has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Carvers Bay, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Loris will face off against Georgetown at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Georgetown and three for Loris. As for Carvers Bay, they will head out on the road to square off against Scott's Branch at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Scott's Branch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 44 last Saturday.
