The Sahuarita Mustangs will be playing at home against the Walden Grove Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sahuarita is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home.
Last Tuesday, Sahuarita was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-42 to Rio Rico.
Alejandro Vega put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 14 points along with three steals. Zack Myhre was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Walden Grove put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Amphitheater 88-48 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Walden Grove has managed all season.
Walden Grove had a senior duo take command as Ashton Romney scored 21 points and MarQuez Tyree scored 19 points. Romney hasn't dropped below 15points for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Imileo Martinez, who scored 11 points.
Sahuarita's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Walden Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sahuarita have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Walden Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 8.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sahuarita didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Walden Grove in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 65-59 win.
