TOCCOA, Ga. - After trading leads three times,
Stephens County (Toccoa, Ga.) snatched the lead for good when
Chaz Thornton ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Lanier (Sugar Hill, Ga.) 27-18.
After trailing 7-6 at the half, Lanier went ahead on a touchdown pass by
Taylor Grant to
Marty Sanders with 11:00 left in the third.
Stephens County expanded its lead to eight points entering the fourth quarter. SC scored two times in the third, including once on a Thornton touchdown run.
Grant played well for LHS. He threw three touchdowns. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
Thornton played well for the Toccoa school in the victory. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 14 touchdowns on the season.
Stephens County (6-2) goes up against Eastside in a AAAA Region 8 game matchup next week, while Lanier (3-5) locks horns with Lumpkin County also in a AAAA Region 8 game.
