Perrysburg has won ten straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Springfield has won ten straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Yellow Jackets will host the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Perrysburg's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Springfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
If Perrysburg beats Springfield with nine runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Yellow Jackets beat Medina on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-3. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddie Von Sacken spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits.
At the plate, Hayley Griggs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Alyssa Bradford was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Springfield had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Central Catholic on Saturday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since April 14th.
Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Perrysburg, their win bumped their record up to 25-1.
Perrysburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Springfield in their previous meeting back in April, winning 9-5. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
