Baseball Game Preview: John Carroll Catholic Rams vs. Martin County Tigers

The John Carroll Catholic Rams will head out on the road to take on the Martin County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games John Carroll Catholic has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

While John Carroll Catholic's win against Treasure Coast wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Titans on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Rams as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Brennan Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taggert Cameron, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Martin County waltzed into their contest on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with an 11-4 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Cody Bennin looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Kamai Purce was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-5. Zane Moody was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Martin County's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for John Carroll Catholic, their record now sits at 12-9.

John Carroll Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Martin County in their previous matchup back in February of 2018, winning 8-3. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
