The Sharpsville Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Wilmington Greyhounds at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sharpsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Sharpsville didn't have quite enough to beat Mohawk Area and fell 4-3. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lily Palko was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Wilmington came out on top against West Middlesex on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Greyhounds put the hurt on the Big Reds with a sharp 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Skylar Leishman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Harlan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kyla Baney, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Wilmington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Middlesex only managed three hits.
Wilmington's record now sits at 11-4. As for Sharpsville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Sharpsville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Wilmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Sharpsville's way against Wilmington in their previous matchup back in April, as Sharpsville made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
