The Sonora Wildcats will take on the Pitman Pride in a holiday battle at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Sonora has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season. They breezed by Livingston at home to the tune of 70-38. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Sonora has managed all season.
Parker Moore had a dynamite game for Sonora, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Moore pulled down eight or more rebounds. Noah Wright was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Pitman sidestepped Bear Creek for a 62-59 victory. Given Pitman's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Bear Creek is ranked 793rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sonora pushed their record up to 6-8 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Pitman, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.
Sonora came up short against Pitman in their previous meeting back in January, falling 45-39. Can Sonora avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
