Caldwell hasn't had much luck against Vallivue recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 5:00 p.m.
Caldwell is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Skyview, falling 10-1.
Bristol Runnels spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Payton Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Vallivue faced Nampa in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-2 win. Considering the Falcons have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Maris Farner was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits. Farner was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Vallivue got a massive performance out of Ali Knowles, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, Knowles posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bella Magallon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Vallivue, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Caldwell was able to grind out a solid victory over Vallivue when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-2. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
