The Havre de Grace Warriors will take on the Harford Tech Cobras at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Havre de Grace has four straight victories, Harford Tech has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Havre de Grace got the win against Edgewood by a conclusive 15-5. Considering the Warriors have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sarah Weitzel was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Martinovich, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Havre de Grace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, while it was Harford Tech who put the first runs on the board on Thursday, it was C. Milton Wright who put up more. The Cobras took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs.
Mikayla McJilton put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. McJilton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lyric Strong was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Havre de Grace's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Harford Tech, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Havre de Grace hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Harford Tech struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Havre de Grace beat Harford Tech 6-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Cobras have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
