The Lowell Red Arrows will challenge the Marshall Redhawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Lowell sitting on four straight victories and Marshall on five.
While Lowell didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Cedar Springs on Wednesday.
Ty Wasilenski tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Dawson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Owen Kreps was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Lowell hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
Seven must be Marshall's lucky number: they beat Fowlerville with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Redhawks walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Gladiators. With that win, the Redhawks brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Marshall also got a great performance from Brandon Baker as he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Baker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lincoln Fuller was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aidan Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Marshall's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lowell, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2-1.
Both Lowell and Marshall just can't seem to miss. The Red Arrows have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Marshall struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
