The Mesa Ridge Grizzlies had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-58 victory over Palmer. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Mesa Ridge has posted yet this season.
Mesa Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tevin Riehl led the charge by scoring 22 points along with five assists and five steals. Riehl continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Widic, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Several Terrors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was J'twane Mike, who scored 19 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mike has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Walker Asp, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Mesa Ridge's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Palmer, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mesa Ridge will take on The Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Classical Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Mesa Ridge is ranked 27th). As for Palmer, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
