Basketball Recap: Myah Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hawkinsville over Wilcox County

Hawkinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 49-37 to the Wilcox County Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 443rd, while the Patriots are ranked 136th).

Hawkinsville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Myah Brown, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 22 points along with five boards and three steals. Those 22 points gave Brown a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Slocumb, who went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points and four steals.

Hawkinsville's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Wilcox County, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.

Hawkinsville will square off against Telfair County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Telfair County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season. As for Wilcox County, they will face off against Crisp County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilcox County is facing Crisp County at the right time seeing as Crisp County is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
