Basketball Recap: Economedes Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Economedes had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears on Friday, sneaking past 30-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jaguars have posted since December 13, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Economedes to victory, but perhaps none more so than Wendy Serrato, who posted 11 points and three steals. That's the most steals Serrato has posted since back in November of 2024. Alessey Rodriguez was another key player, putting up seven points and ten boards.

Economedes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Economedes' win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 9-15. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-17.

Economedes and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Economedes (ranked 1167th) will meet Edinburg (ranked 401st) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Economedes is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will square off against Weslaco at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 858 places (1080 vs. 222).
