The Nelson County Cardinals are taking a road trip to square off against the Washington County Commanders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Nelson County will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
It was a proper cat-fight when Nelson County duked it out with Bardstown on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Cardinals have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Aubrey Robbins was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Jorja Bartley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cali Nowlin, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Nelson County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington County). They were the clear victors by a 24-13 margin over Danville on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Commanders in their matchups with the Admirals: they've now won nine in a row.
Loren Frantz was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Ariana Gonzales was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Nelson County's record now sits at 11-3-1. As for Washington County, their record is now 2-13.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Nelson County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .501. However, it's not like Washington County struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Nelson County took their victory against Washington County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Commanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
