It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Hononegah Indians can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Batavia on Saturday, falling 55-14. Hononegah's defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.
Cole Warren threw for 260 yards and a touchdown. Joe Melcher was his top target, picking up 146 receiving yards.
It was another big night for Ryan Boe, who threw for 309 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt. Boe has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Charlie Whelpley was another key contributor, rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Batavia's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Ben Fiegel and Ben Brown who racked up four sacks between them.
Hononegah's defeat dropped their record down to 11-1. As for Batavia, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Hononegah does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Batavia will head out on the road to face off against Chicago Mt. Carmel on Saturday. Chicago Mt. Carmel is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
