The Mountain Ridge Miners will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Northern Huskies at 5:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Mountain Ridge ended up a good deal behind Allegany and lost 62-43. While losing is never fun, Mountain Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Allegany is ranked 50th).
Despite their defeat, Mountain Ridge saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cameron Breighner, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. That's the first time this season that Breighner grabbed two or more steals. Cobe Penick was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Northern came up short against Southern on Friday and fell 61-49. Northern has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mountain Ridge bumped their record down to 5-6 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Northern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Mountain Ridge against Northern when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 70-42 win. Will Mountain Ridge repeat their success, or does Northern have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
