Brother Rice won the last time they faced Lyons and things went their way on Thursday too. The Crusaders walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Lions. The win was familiar territory for the Crusaders, who have now won seven games in a row.

Brady Cunningham made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

In other pitching news, Brother Rice got a great performance from Brayden McKendrick as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts McKendrick has posted since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, Aidan Nohava was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Triezenberg, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Brother Rice lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Brother Rice pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.5 runs. As for Lyons, they moved to 6-2 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Brother Rice and Lyons should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Crusaders will square off against St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (19 vs. 128). Meanwhile, Lyons (ranked 41st) will meet Proviso East (ranked 461st) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
