Baseball Game Preview: Slinger Owls vs. Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes

Slinger is 2-8 against Whitefish Bay since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Owls will face off against the Blue Dukes at 5:00 p.m. Slinger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Slinger is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Homestead on Wednesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The Owls have beaten the Highlanders the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Highlanders has come to flipping the script.

Brayden Zimmerman looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Slinger got a massive performance out of Chase Leverance, who went a perfect 6-for-6 with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those six hits gave Leverance a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Macay Wagner, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Slinger was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .528. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Whitefish Bay and West Bend East have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Blue Dukes had just enough and edged out the Suns 5-4. That's two games straight that the Blue Dukes have won by just one run.

Slinger's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Whitefish Bay, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-3.
