Texico is 2-8 against Santa Rosa since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Texico comes in on three and Santa Rosa on 14.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Texico and Loving meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Wolverines came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 14-10. That's two games straight that the Wolverines have won by exactly four runs.
Alex Fuentes was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March. Ismael Silva also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Texico kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Santa Rosa made easy work of Estancia on Tuesday and carried off a 25-3 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Joshua Cordova was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Santa Rosa got a massive performance out of Andre Chavez, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, one stolen base, and one double. Daniel Zamora was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
Santa Rosa pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.3 runs. As for Texico, their record now sits at 6-10.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Texico has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .555. However, it's not like Santa Rosa struggles in that department as they've averaged .596. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Texico couldn't quite get it done against Santa Rosa in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
