Mineral Ridge has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 34 points or more this season. They blew past McKinley 65-16 on the road. Given Mineral Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while McKinley is ranked 676th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mineral Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gianna Gilbert, who scored 12 points along with 8 steals. Sullivan Sandy was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, McDonald waltzed into Thursday's match with two straight wins but they left with three. They managed a 35-31 victory over Lowellville.
Mineral Ridge's victory lifted them to 5-0 while McKinley's defeat dropped them down to 1-3.
