Lakeland is 7-2 against Churubusco since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Lakeland Lakers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Churubusco Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
After a string of three wins, Lakeland's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They suffered a rough 47-23 loss at the hands of Fairfield. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lakeland in their matchups with Fairfield: they've now lost five in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Katelyn Ryan, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Churubusco's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They fell just short of West Noble by a score of 34-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Churubusco has suffered yet this season.
Churubusco's loss came about despite a quality game from Brooklyn Sinclair, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sinclair has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Eby, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Churubusco smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Noble only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Churubusco, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Lakeland have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Churubusco, though, as they've been averaging only 22.8 rebounds per game. Given Lakeland's sizeable advantage in that area, Churubusco will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lakeland didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Churubusco in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 62-57 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Churubusco's Hailee Gaerte, who went 8 for 15 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 0 assists. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Lakeland to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
