The Klamath Union Pelicans will face off against the Madras White Buffaloes at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Klamath Union will be strutting in after a victory while Madras will be coming in after a loss.
While Klamath Union didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Phoenix by a score of 9-4 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pelicans.
Pj Safford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tildon Coffman, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Glidden, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Madras lost 8-1 to La Pine on Wednesday. The White Buffaloes have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Madras saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nakomis Rivera, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Klamath Union pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Madras, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Madras' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Klamath Union has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. It's a different story for Madras, though, as they've only averaged .276. Will they be able to contain Klamath Union's hitters?
Klamath Union skirted past Madras 7-6 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Pelicans repeat their success, or do the White Buffaloes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
