The Sanger West Hornets will square off against the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Sanger West is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Sanger West gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Sunnyside with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Hornets have won eight contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mia Arriola was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Hernandez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.
Sanger West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Sierra Pacific came up short against Hanford West on Friday and fell 7-3. The Golden Bears haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Sierra Pacific saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Misha Soares, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Jaynee Campos was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Sanger West's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Pacific, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.
Everything went Sanger West's way against Sierra Pacific when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Sanger West made off with a 12-6 victory. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
