It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Nucla had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Sargent Farmers with a sharp 17-2 win. Considering the Mustangs have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackson McCabe made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Nucla's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Brycen Rummel was incredible, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Jake Hulst was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Nucla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory (which was Nucla's fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Sargent, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
As of now, neither Nucla nor the Farmers have any future games scheduled.
