The Rolesville Rams will take on the Southern Lee Cavaliers in a tournament on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Rolesville has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Southern Lee will arrive with three straight wins.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Rolesville's offense. They lost 8-0 to Voyager Academy on Tuesday.
Rolesville got a good showing from Tyler Vincent, who struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave Vincent a new career-low in walks (zero).
Meanwhile, while Southern Lee put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Hoke County. The Cavaliers put the hurt on the Bucks with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Southern Lee saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Cox, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Cox continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kessler Petrarca was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Southern Lee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoke County only posted an OBP of .278.
Southern Lee's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Rolesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Rolesville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Southern Lee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Rolesville came out on top in a nail-biter against Southern Lee in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
