The Doddridge County Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Gilmer County Titans at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, Doddridge County was fully in charge, breezing past the Wildcat 69-12 on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Doddridge County.
Doddridge County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Payton Trent out in front who scored 17 points. Tenley Paugh was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, Gilmer County put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 65-36 victory over Ritchie County on the road. Given Gilmer County's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Rebels are ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Doddridge County's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Gilmer County, they pushed their record up to 15-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Doddridge County was dealt a bruising 61-31 loss at the hands of the Titans in their previous meeting back in January. Can Doddridge County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
