After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Swain County, The Murphy Bulldogs were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 27-20 victory over Andrews. Given Murphy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Andrews is ranked 258th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hunter Stalcup got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. Stalcup's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dalton Rose, who rushed for 144 yards. Rose is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Murphy's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Andrews, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Murphy will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Cherokee at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. As for Andrews, they will square off against Hayesville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
