Suttons Bay is 7-2 against Buckley since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Norsemen will head out to face off against the Bears at 4:15 p.m. Suttons Bay has given up an average of 12 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Suttons Bay and Onekama meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Norsemen lost 13-3 to the Portagers.
Suttons Bay saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Oskaboose, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buckley). They put the hurt on Brethren with a sharp 14-0 win on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Landon Kulawiak made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Coy Breithaupt was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Buckley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't).
Buckley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Suttons Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Buckley, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Everything went Suttons Bay's way against Buckley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Suttons Bay made off with a 13-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Norsemen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
