For the first time this season, Pontotoc will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will take on Corinth at 5:30 p.m. Pontotoc is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Pontotoc will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating East Webster, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. Pontotoc came out on top against East Webster by a score of 9-6 on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won three matches in a row.
Star Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emarie Boddie, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Kelsy Spears was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Pontotoc kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Corinth fell victim to East Union and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Urchins.
Corinth's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Pontotoc, their record is now 7-2.
Pontotoc's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. Pontotoc has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Corinth, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Pontotoc continue to outrun the ball?
Pontotoc couldn't quite get it done against Corinth in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can Pontotoc avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
