Arvada West has enjoyed the comforts of home their last six games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Valor Christian Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact Arvada West proved on Saturday. They walked away with a 57-44 victory over Monarch. With that victory, Arvada West brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Saylor Swanson was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Avery Harrison, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Valor Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 66-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cherry Creek.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Emma Lytle, who scored 14 points. Quinn Vansickle was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six assists and four steals.
Arvada West's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-9. As for Valor Christian, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Arvada West have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Valor Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Arvada West came up short against Valor Christian in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 61-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Vansickle, who scored 28 points. Now that Arvada West knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
