The Gilmer Bobcats will head out on the road to take on the Fannin County Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Gilmer will be strutting in after a victory while Fannin County will be coming in after a loss.
Gilmer waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Murray County.
Gilmer hit Murray County with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from
Yenifer Lopez-Bautista (2),
Angelica Castenada, and
Calli Wise.
Meanwhile, Fannin County pushed their score all the way to four on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Pepperell by a score of 5-4. Both teams had to tread carefully at times as the refs weren't afraid to hand out yellow cards: Caroline Young was handed one for Fannin County, while Pepperell got theirs courtesy of Dalila Cornejo.
Gilmer's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Fannin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Gilmer was able to grind out a solid win over Fannin County in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gilmer since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
