Softball Recap: Tempe Beats Cortez for Their Fourth Straight Win

Tempe lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Cortez, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. The Buffaloes beat the Colts on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 21-11. The Buffaloes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Tempe got a massive performance out of Celeste Alvarez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Maribella Rivera, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Tempe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Tempe, bringing their record up to 10-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games. As for Cortez, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Tempe beat the Colts by a score of 16-6 on Wednesday.
