Notre Dame is a perfect 6-0 against Mills since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will square off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Notre Dame comes in on nine and Mills on six.
Notre Dame had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Mercy on Wednesday. The Tigers never let the Bears get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Allison Lui made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Notre Dame let Eliana Crespin and Hailey Truong run wild. Crespin went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Truong got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Truong has posted since back in March. Stella Hird was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mercy didn't got any hits.
Mills came out on top against Notre Dame on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run first inning. The Vikings put the hurt on the Regents with a sharp 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won 12 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kalia Woo looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Lucy Esquivel was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Kwan, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Mills pushed their record up to 16-3-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Notre Dame, their record now sits at 15-3-1.
Mills' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Notre Dame has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mills, though, as they've been averaging only 2.4 strikeouts. Will Notre Dame keep running through batters, or will the Vikings buck the trend?
Notre Dame beat Mills 6-3 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
