Basketball Recap: Laville Falls Despite Big Games from Andre Gonzales and Collin Czarnecki

If LaVille was feeling good fresh off their 65-27 takedown of Knox last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The LaVille Lancers took a hard 62-47 fall against the Manchester Squires on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Squires are ranked 37th).

LaVille's loss came despite strong showings from Collin Czarnecki and Andre Gonzales. Czarnecki dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Gonzales went 7 of 12 on his way to 15 points and three steals. The match was Czarnecki's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braedyn Foster, who posted four points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, LaVille smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Manchester got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ethan Hendrix out in front who went 10 of 16 on his way to 24 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Hendrix is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Betten, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards.

LaVille's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Manchester, their win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

LaVille will take on Tri-County in a tournament on December 27th. As for Manchester, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southwood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
