Perry is a perfect 4-0 against Mountain View since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Pumas will welcome the Toros at 3:45 p.m. Perry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Perry is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: O'Connor, who was ranked sixth at the time (Perry was ranked 22nd). The Pumas came up short against the Eagles on Thursday, falling 12-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pumas have suffered against the Eagles since April 30, 2021.
Ellie Leicht made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of CC Hall, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Mountain View had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Knights as they made off with an 11-5 win. The Toros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Jaelynn Fike was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Mountain View got a great performance from Brenna Campos as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Campos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kylynn Sylvester, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Abbie Cameron was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Mountain View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Mountain View pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Perry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Perry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .389. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Perry's way against Mountain View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Perry made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Pumas have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Toros turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
