5A Region III District 24 recap November 5, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Clear Lake, who took down 237th ranked Clear Falls, 17-14. Nicholas McGee ran for 178 yards during the win.
Clear Creek added to the longest winning streak in 5A Region III District 24 this week by beating Brazoswood, 38-27. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Wildcats.
The Falcons' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Samuel Smith, III threw for 85 and 1 touchdown and Stephon Chatman had 38 yards receiving. On the ground McGee contributed 178 yards. Sean Fortney helped Clear Lake's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 20 yards.
Clear Lake's dynamic duo of Smith, III and Chatman proved to be unstoppable against the Knights, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Fortney helped Clear Lake's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 20 yards.
McGee provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Sam Smith's team bested Clear Falls. McGee's key target this week was Chatman, who caught 4 passes for 38 yards.
On the heels of Zach Cripps and Matt Guidry, Clear Springs has had great success on offense. Cripps leads the league in passing with 1,616 yards, while Guidry has rushed for 1,018 yards this season. Mike Zierlein's team's John Humphrey leads the league in receiving yards with 686 on 57 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Clear Creek takes on second place Clear Springs. Last week, Clear Creek bested the Buccaneers, while the Chargers fell to Dickinson.
McGee of the the Falcons is just 4 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 144 carries McGee has accumulated 996 yard this year.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Clear Springs takes on Darrell Warden's team. Frank Maldonado's team's offense has scored 298 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Wildcats have allowed only 183 on the year.
Dickinson scaled the state rankings by moving to 179 from 224 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 24. John Snelson's team was able to move up by beating the Chargers 35-7.
