Alamosa is 9-1 against Pagosa Springs since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Mean Moose will host the Pirates at 11:00 a.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Alamosa made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Monte Vista, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mean Moose put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 7-1 victory on Tuesday. That looming 7-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mean Moose yet this season.
Alamosa's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jonah Pittman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Pittman hit this season. Carlos Garcia was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Sanford as they made off with a 13-2 victory. Considering the Pirates have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Chris Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Pouyer, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kaeden Iguchi, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Pagosa Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .462 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Pagosa Springs' win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.2 runs over those games. As for Alamosa, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Alamosa has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pagosa Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Alamosa was able to grind out a solid win over Pagosa Springs in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 17-13. Will the Mean Moose repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
