Stigler has gone 9-1 against Checotah recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Stigler Panthers face off against Checotah Wildcats at 11:30 a.m. Stigler is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Stigler's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Thursday, when they got past Wilburton's usually-dominant pitching crew. Stigler walked away with an 11-7 victory over Wilburton.
Blake Goff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Goff was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Goff wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Hodges, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was Hodges' first of the season. Another was Dakota Drewry, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Stigler kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Checotah made sure to put some runs up on the board against Morris on Friday. Checotah was the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Morris. Considering the Wildcats' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Stigler, Checotah also got a great game from a two-way player: Mason Rainbolt. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rainbolt was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Checotah let Dalton Carter and Dallas Carter run wild. Dalton scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Dallas scored a run while going 3-for-3. Treagan DuVall was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Stigler's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Checotah, they moved to 2-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Stigler hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .414. However, it's not like Checotah struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stigler took their win against Checotah in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stigler since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
