The Mesquite Skeeters''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 63-42 walloping at the hands of Rockwall. Mesquite has struggled against Rockwall recently, as their match on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Mesquite's loss came despite strong showings from Preston Jackson and Sir maje Wallace. Jackson picked up 130 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Wallace threw for 387 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt. The team also got some help courtesy of Cauri Hughes, who picked up 161 receiving yards.
Rockwall's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ashten Emory, who rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Emory was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Tristan Gooch was another key contributor, picking up 158 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mesquite's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Rockwall-Heath (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for Rockwall, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Mesquite does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Rockwall will be playing at home against Tyler Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tyler Legacy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Rockwall is ranked 13th).
