Sandwich is 0-3 against Richmond-Burton since April of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Indians will take on the Rockets at 4:30 p.m.
Sandwich is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since May 15, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Harvard by a score of 8-6. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Abigail Johnson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Corneils, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Richmond-Burton entered their tilt with Woodstock on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Streaks a 6-0 shutout.
Hailey Holtz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 14 games.
In other batting news, Rebecca Lanz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
Richmond-Burton's record now sits at 10-4-1. As for Sandwich, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sandwich has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Richmond-Burton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sandwich couldn't quite finish off Richmond-Burton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
