The Kapolei Hurricanes will venture away from home to take on the Campbell Sabers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Kapolei is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Hawaii's top teams: Mililani, who was ranked first at the time (Kapolei was ranked eighth). The Hurricanes took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans on Thursday. The Hurricanes haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Kendalyn Cordeiro-Felise was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Jashia-Lee Hernando also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Campbell waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Golden Hawks a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Sabers have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophia Alo was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Taylor Mendoza, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Campbell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Campbell pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Kapolei, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kapolei hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Campbell struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kapolei suffered a grim 12-4 defeat to Campbell in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
