Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A District 9 this week, St. Augustine beat Holy Cross 33-30. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Purple Knights.
Archbishop Rummel and Jesuit played the closest game in the league this week, with Archbishop Rummel eventually emerging with a 24-21 victory.
The Tigers' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. James Tabary threw for 300 and 2 touchdowns and Jerry Cook had 175 yards receiving. On the ground Tre Turner contributed 51 yards. Darius Rodrigue helped Holy Cross' passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 43 yards.
He was 30-42 with 0 interceptions.
Turner was the best running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 51 yards as Holy Cross lost to St. Augustine. Teammate Tabary added to the ground attack by rushing for 30 yards.
Barry Wilson's team's Tabary and Michael Chigbu led 5A District 9 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Tabary has thrown for 1,592 yards this season, while Chigbu has 37 catches for 667 yards. Cyrus Crutchfield's team's Leonard Fournette leads the league in rushing yards with 759.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between the Raiders and the Tigers. Archbishop Rummel enters the contest ranked 12th in the state, while Holy Cross ranks eighth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Jay Roth's team takes on the Tigers. The Raiders have allowed 148 points this season, while Holy Cross has given up 104. Archbishop Rummel allowed 21 points last week as it beat the Bluejays.
Brother Martin made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,587 from 1,770. The improvement was largely due to a 28-21 victory over Archbishop Shaw last week.
