Baseball Game Preview: Hoisington Cardinals vs. Lyons Lions

The Hoisington Cardinals will venture away from home to square off against the Lyons Lions on Tuesday. Hoisington will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Hoisington is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Smoky Valley on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Tyrus Penka made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lane French, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Humphrey, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Hoisington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Lyons didn't have quite enough to beat Southeast of Saline on Thursday and fell 3-1. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hoisington pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lyons, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Hoisington skirted past Lyons 12-10 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
