Football Recap: Dajia Rogers Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Pinellas Park

Lakewood won against Clearwater Central Catholic last Thursday with 19 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Spartans managed a 19-15 victory over the Pinellas Park Patriots. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 19-0 win the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Lakewood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dajia Rogers out in front who threw for 310 yards and two TDs while completing 76.7% of her passes, and also rushed for 80 yards on only five carries. Rogers has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least 250 passing yards, but 3-5 otherwise. Sharra Presley was Rogers' top target, picking up 150 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 59 yards on only eight carries.

Although Pinellas Park took the loss, they still got scores from Laila El Bouab and Abigail Jenkins.

Lakewood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.5 points on average over those games. As for Pinellas Park, they dropped their record down to 4-9 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Lakewood and Pinellas Park are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Spartans will challenge Clearwater Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lakewood is facing the Marauders at the right time seeing as the Marauders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Pinellas Park, they will face off against Largo at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: the Packers will have lost four straight heading into Monday's contest.
